Botanic Healthcare has announced the successful completion of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study demonstrating the modulatory effects of marigold-derived lutein and zeaxanthin; Lutenic® on key markers of macular function in healthy subjects.

The study evaluated the impact of supplementation on macular pigment optical density (MPOD), glare disability, and photo-stress recovery, three clinically relevant parameters associated with functional vision and retinal resilience. Lutein and zeaxanthin, naturally sourced from marigold (Tagetes erecta) flowers, are the only dietary carotenoids selectively concentrated in the macula, where they form a critical optical and antioxidant barrier that supports visual clarity, contrast sensitivity, and protection against light-induced stress.

Conducted in 120 healthy adults, the study involved once-daily supplementation for 90 days, comparing the investigational product with placebo. Results demonstrated consistent and clinically meaningful improvements across all evaluated endpoints in subjects receiving Lutenic®, while the placebo group showed minimal or non-significant changes. The investigational product also demonstrated an excellent safety and tolerability profile.
