Supplement brand Standard Process has launched Whole Food Folate, a whole food-based folate and vitamin B12 supplement sourced from whole foods like collard greens, turnip greens, and golden chlorella.

Unlike synthetic folic acid supplements, the naturally occurring forms of folate (methylated folate, 5-MTHF) and B12 (methylcobalamin) are immediately bioavailable, noted Standard Process.

The two nutrients support the function of the central nervous system, including neurotransmitter synthesis, and healthy cellular processes like DNA formation and replication. Additionally, it is formulated to support red blood cell health and healthy aging, the company reported.

The formulation is suitable for people who have folate metabolism concerns, such as those with MTHFR gene variants, which make it difficult for the body to convert folic acid into its active form.
