Nutriscience Publishers, LLC, a publisher specializing in technical books on nutritional science, founded by the late Muhammed Majeed, PhD, in conjunction with Sabinsa, has released a new book, “Amla: Super-Fruit with Superior Science.”

The compendium covers chemistry, biochemistry, and biology of amla (Phyllanthus emblica) in relation to human health.

The fruit, which has been used in Ayurveda for centuries, is capturing attention thanks to modern research and standardization. The book brings together insights from leading experts in Ayurveda, botany, ethnobotany, phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, and modern nutrition science. The book explores amla’s history of use, applications, and future potential in health and wellness. The fruit’s cultural significance is traced through ancient texts, folklore, and traditional practices, while contemporary science grounds its benefits.

Amla’s exceptional antioxidant potency, coupled with its blood sugar management benefits, can promote endothelial health, liver function, and other aspects of longevity, Sabinsa reported.

The compendium challenges early research fixated on its vitamin C content, delving into the active constituents like gallic acid esters and other phytochemicals. A central theme throughout the book is standardization, and the need for quality control of botanical ingredients to develop evidence-based health solutions.

The book was edited by Anju Majeed, PhD, chairperson of the Sami-Sabinsa Group, and is credited to Muhammed Majeed and the late Kalyanam Nagabhushanam, PhD.

“My father dedicated his life to unlocking the scientific potential of nature’s most powerful botanicals. This compendium on amla is a testament to that mission, bringing rigorous modern research to a fruit that has been a trusted Ayurvedic remedy for millennia,” said Shaheed Majeed, global CEO and managing director of Sabinsa. “We hope it serves as a scholarly resource, a useful resource for product formulators, and an inspiration for the next generation of researchers.”

The title is the latest in NutriScience Publishers’ series of research-driven books on key ingredients in Sabinsa’s portfolio. Previous volumes have covered BioPerine black pepper extract, Boswellin Boswellia, Ashwagandha, and selenium.
