OFD Life Sciences, a division of Oregon Freeze Dry, has been granted a patent for LyoPastille oral delivery platform. The technology, which leverages OFD Life Sciences’ 63 years of expertise in lyophilization, produces orally dissolving tablets with improved absorption and bioavailability of active ingredients, and enhanced taste and texture for a better user experience. The delivery technology can be used in biopharma, med tech, animal health, and consumer health products.

Unlike other quick-dissolve formats in the supplements space, LyoPastille stabilizes ingredients and preserves their activity, providing a scalable, cost-effective alternative that avoids typical stability challenges.

“LyoPastille is an exciting, differentiating innovation for all aspects of the life sciences industry as we revolutionize the way active pharmaceutical ingredients are delivered,” said David Enloe, CEO. “By combining our decades of expertise in lyophilization, we are able to create stable, precisely dosed products that dissolve very quickly, eliminating the need for swallowing, which often impedes patient compliance, as well as the many other barriers associated with other oral dose technologies and, in some cases, even injectables.”

The consumer health market increasingly demands innovative and enjoyable formats that maintain efficacy. The $49 billion animal health market also continues to seek more effective technologies that can solve the user compliance challenge to deliver therapeutics. The patented technology enables high-throughput production combined with industrial-scale GMP lyophilization capacity to significantly lower costs and turnaround time relative to traditional orally-dissolvable pharmaceutical technologies, the company reported.
