TurmXTRA, a low-dose, water-dispersible turmeric extract marketed by Nutriventia, may support measures of skin health and appearance, a new clinical study published in the Journal of Dermatological Science found.

The skin health benefits of turmeric have been under-explored in scientific literature, noted Shefali Thanawala, Ayurvedic expert and medical affairs specialist and lead author of the study, particularly when it comes to its impact on facial skin parameters.

The rationale for studying TurmXTRA for skin health was motivated by anecdotal feedback, noted Rajat Shah, co-founder of Nutriventia. Consumers who took the ingredient for joint health support reported improvements in their skin.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled 96 healthy adult women between 18 and 40 years old. Participants were randomly assigned to receive a 250 mg TurmXTRA supplement or a placebo daily for two months. Skin hydration levels were assessed with the MoistureMeterSC, and trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) was measured with the VapoMeter. Facial gloss and blemish reductions were measured using Antera imaging and Skin GlossMeter tools.

Participants taking TurmXTRA saw significant improvements in facial hydration levels compared to the placebo group.

According to Skin GlossMeter readings, they also saw increased facial gloss and overall enhanced glow, and significant reductions in the appearance of blemishes and dark spots, compared to both baseline and placebo.

Participants from the test group also experienced more even skin tones and softer, smoother skin textures by the end of the study.

Positive changes were observed in TEWL measurements, indicating improved skin barrier function and resilience.

“Turmeric has always been a hero in the story of skin health, but with TurmXTRA glow, we’ve given it a scientific and clinically validated voice. This study is an affirmation of our belief that modern delivery technologies can unlock ancient wisdom in new ways,” said Shah. “The clinically proven benefits in hydration, glow, and even tone, delivered through a low 250 mg daily dose, redefine what’s possible for turmeric in beauty from within.”
