Kaneka Ubiquinol has formed a scientific advisory board, and held the first board meeting on July 4. Ubiquinol is an active form of CoQ10, a lipid-soluble antioxidant which supports mitochondrial function.

The board is comprised of global experts committed to advancing the science and clinical understanding of mitochondrial health as a foundation for well-being. It will support evidence-based approaches to preventive and integrative healthcare, support translational research, and strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration on sub-cellular health.

The board will be chaired by Dr. Ross Walker, an integrative cardiologist and preventive health advocate. Other board members have expertise in integrative medicine, mitochondrial function, cardiology, reproductive health, genetics, nutrition, naturopathy, pharmacy, and complementary medicine.

“Mitochondrial health supports the full life cycle of well-being, from pre-conception, to the first 1,000 days of life, to healthy aging,” said Walker. “Its central role in cellular energy and resilience is precisely why the formation of this board is so important. It reflects a growing recognition of mitochondrial function as a cornerstone of healthspan and lifespan.”

Other members of the board are:

  • Alan Bensoussan, professor and founding director of the NICM Health Research Institute, and a specialist in evidence-based complementary medicine research across APAC.
  • Leah Hechtman, PhD, specialist in reproductive medicine, fertility, and women’s health
  • Denise Furness, PhD, functional geneticist and nutritionist who specializes in personalized health and nutrigenomics
  • Gerald Quigley, a pharmacist and master herbalist focused on integrative patient care and education
  • Bobby Mehta, a pharmacist and educator focused on practitioner engagement and clinical education.

“We are honored to welcome this distinguished board,” said Tsuyoshi Takakuwa, head of marketing and sales for supplemental nutrition in APAC at Kaneka. “At Kaneka Ubiquinol, our vision is clear: to be the trusted leader in mitochondrial health and cellular energy, not only through scientific innovation, but through meaningful, real-world impact we are making on people’s well-being.”

Kaneka Ubiquinol stands out from competing ingredients on the marketplace due to its precision yeast fermentation process, which enables an ingredient that is bioidentical to naturally-occurring ubiquinol, said Kazuki Takita, a member of the Oceania and Asia marketing and sales team. “Beyond delivering advanced technology, our globally patented precision yeast fermentation process reflects Kaneka’s deep commitment to sustainability. By operating without high temperatures or pressure, it significantly reduces energy consumption and environmental impact, enabling the eco-friendly production of bioidentical ubiquinol. The result is a premium, clinically-proven ingredient with exceptional purity and efficacy.”

Kaneka Ubiquinol has been the subject of more than 100 scientific studies, is protected by over 80 patents, and has been the subject of research on mitochondrial health, cardiovascular health, fertility, and energy production for 45 years. Today, it is sold in over 50 countries, through more than 1,000 practitioner and over-the-counter nutraceutical brands.
