A recent clinical study found that a four-botanical blend marketed by Monteloeder as Eternalyoung supported several measures of skin health, providing more youthful-looking skin, after 12 weeks of supplementation. The findings were published in the Journal of Dermatology & Cosmetology.

The ingredient, a blend of extracts from pomegranate, sweet orange, desert ginseng, and gotu kola, is formulated to work synergistically to slow down markers of skin aging and enhance radiance, restoring skin hydration and elasticity.

In the double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 71 women between the ages of 33 and 66 who showed visible signs of skin aging were randomized to receive either a placebo or 225 mg of Eternalyoung daily for 12 weeks.

Supplementation had a positive impact on multiple key parameters of skin aging, including a 23% reduction in forehead wrinkle volume, measured via a three-dimensional scanning sensor that measures fine skin surface details. There was also a reduction in the number of wrinkles in the forehead. More than 80% of the volunteers in the treatment group exhibited these positive changes, while the placebo group remained largely unchanged.

Measures of skin radiance improved by 20%, the authors reported, and changes were more pronounced among participants with greater skin impairment at onset. Additionally, the treatment group saw a 14% reduction in melanin index, and saw a visible improvement in skin tone and brightness around the forehead, upper cheeks, and around the eyes over the treatment period, the authors reported.

The study also assessed skin barrier function, and found that users experienced better skin moisture retention, particularly for those who entered the study with higher levels of trans-epidermal water loss at baseline.

“This study indicates that daily supplementation with Eternalyoung is associated with notable and clinically observed improvements in the key aspects of skin aging,” said Nuria Caturia, PhD, chief R&D officer for Monteloeder. “We witnessed its ability to help improve the appearance of smoother skin, more even tone, and enhanced radiance and moisturization, especially in subgroups with a compromised skin barrier.”

The present study follows up on research that was published in 2023. In that study, subjects taking Eternalyoung for 12 weeks experienced improvements in skin hydration, mitigation of trans-epidermal water loss, improved elasticity, reduction in crow’s feet wrinkles, and improvement in skin thickness.

The present study, however, focused on the forehead, one of the most expressive areas on the face, which is highly susceptible to wrinkle formation even at a relatively young age.

“Eternalyoung supports skin vitality by acting on cellular mechanisms associated with visible aging,” said Caturia. “This composition brings together four botanicals that work in unison to provide multi-pathway holistic skin benefits. Phenolic compounds, like polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenoids, and carotenoids, have been garnering interest in the beauty-from-within nutraceuticals market, noted Monteloeder. Eternalyoung is characterized by its minimum content of 2.5% verbacoside, 12.5% hesperidin, 3% punicalagins, and 7% asiaticosides, as verified by HPLC-DAD analysis.
