There is increasing interest in adding functional ingredients to coffee in order to improve its effects on focus, fatigue, and energy, and AlphaWave L-Theanine has strong potential for this application, reported Ethical Naturals, Inc.

Caffeine is associated with beta brainwave activity, which provides a stimulating effect but may also cause anxiety, and make it hard to relax. In contrast, AlphaWave has been demonstrated to promote alpha brainwave activity, which is associated with a relaxed wakefulness and reduction in feelings of anxiety or stress, reported the company. L-theanine is found with caffeine in green tea naturally, and adding it to coffee is a natural fit and popular among consumers, the company noted.

Clinical studies demonstrate that AlphaWave can promote mental clarity and focus while reducing nervous tension, and help users relax without becoming drowsy, both after a single dose and through continuous supplementation.

The ingredient is GRAS-affirmed in the U.S. and is the only L-Theanine ingredient approved for use in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. It is fully water-soluble, flavor neutral, and stable at a wide range of temperatures and pH conditions. It is also certified Kosher and Halal. AlphaWave is produced at one facility that is GMP, ISO22000, FSSC and HACCP certified by SGS and inspected by FDA; it is also tested and distributed through ENI’s NSF/ANSI 455-2 Certification that includes FSMA and cGMP (21 CFR 111), (21 CFR 117).

“Though history has found the benefits caffeine and L-theanine to work beneficially in green tea, several modern scientific studies have verified the benefits of adding L-theanine to caffeine products,” said Cal Bewicke, CEO of Ethical Naturals. “A new wave of consumers looking for something new, looking for focus, and interested in improving their well-being are finding what they seek.”
