A Cassia fistula extract marketed as CaFi by Logical Square was shown in two new clinical studies on pediatric and older adult populations to support measures of bowel function and overall gastrointestinal comfort.

In both studies, which recruited more than 200 participants cumulatively, the ingredient significantly improved bowel movement frequency, stool consistency, straining, and self-reported gastrointestinal symptoms consistently, with a strong safety profile.

A prior comparison study also found that CaFi outperformed senna, an over-the-counter laxative,  in tolerability, with no clinically-meaningful adverse effect on safety parameters.

The new studies found that CaFi provided digestive relief while maintaining the tolerability profile shown in the previous study; senna-based products aren’t suitable for children or geriatric populations because they often lead to urgency, cramping, or discomfort, which was not observed with Cassia fistula.

“This body of research highlights CaFi as a scientifically-validated ingredient for digestive health support,” said Sanjay Tamoli, PhD, vice president of research and development. “With clinical data spanning children, adults, and seniors, and even a head-to-head comparison with senna, CaFi represents a next-generation approach to supporting regularity without the harsh effects often associated with traditional laxatives.”

CaFi is suitable for dietary supplements, functional beverages, and foods designed to support digestive comfort and bowel regularity. More details about the new CaFi studies were discussed during a recent webinar, “Gut Health without the Grip: Emerging Trends and the Science-Backed Benefits of CaFi.”
