The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) reported that it was informed by Amazon that the retailer will require dietary supplement sellers to receive verification from one of its approved third-party testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) entities that a product was manufactured in a facility compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) regulations.

This requirement is a new addition, separate from the third-party product testing requirements introduced in 2024 for dietary supplements in the sexual enhancement, weight management, bodybuilding, sports nutrition, and joint health categories.

During the phased rollout, Amazon will conduct outreach to impacted sellers, and contacted companies will have 90 days to initiate a documentation request with a participating TIC entity. In some cases, Amazon may be able to confirm cGMP compliance through approved third parties without this documentation request.

Accepted cGMP programs include but are not limited to Eurofins GMP, NSF/ANSI 455-2, 229 GMP, UL GMP, USP GMP, SAI Global, SGS, Intertek, TGA, SQF Dietary Supplements Foods Safety Code, GFSI, and SSCI.

Compliance Fast-Track Program

Amazon is also rolling out its compliance fast-track program for some dietary supplements.

This program, which has been used for other product categories, allows Amazon to collect certification materials directly from a participating certifying organization; fast-tracked companies don’t need to provide any information to Amazon directly. Compliance Fast-Track is available through the partner organizations BSCG, Clean Label Project, GRMA, Informed, NSF, and USP.

Partner organizations handle the scope of coverage and compliance requirements, and companies can learn more from the participating TIC entity of their choice. General information about the Compliance Fast-Track Program is available here.
