Gencor announced the publication of a new clinical study demonstrating that PlexoZome Levagen, a newly introduced topical formulation of its palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) ingredient, can support joint comfort after exercise.

“This is the first published clinical trial to show that topical application of PEA can provide rapid and meaningful aches and discomfort relief,” said Amanda Rao, PhD, lead investigator of the study. “The findings highlight PlexoZome Levagen as a promising natural analgesic alternative, particularly for individuals seeking fast-acting and well-tolerated solutions.”

The study, published in the Journal of Alternative, Complementary & Integrative Medicine, enrolled 86 healthy adults who experienced knee discomfort after exercise. Once they had a knee pain rating of 3/10 or greater on the VAS pain scale, they applied three sprays of the product and recorded their subjective pain scores every 15 minutes for two hours, or until pain subsided. If participants were still experiencing pain, they reapplied their investigational product at 30-, 60-, and 90-minute marks. A total of 214 pain episodes qualified for analysis.

Compared to placebo, the PEA group saw significantly greater resolution within 60 minutes of onset compared to placebo, with an average of a 71% reduction in self-reported pain scores, compared to a 43% reduction in the placebo group.

“The clinical research results support the growing demand for topical, non-NSAID solutions in the sports nutrition, active lifestyle, and joint health markets,” said Ramasamy Venkatesh, managing director of Gencor Pacific. “With its liposomal delivery system, PlexoZome Levagen ensures enhanced absorption of PEA at the targeted site of discomfort, offering brands a clinically validated, innovative ingredient to differentiate their product portfolios.”
