A polyphenol-rich sorghum extract marketed by RedLeaf Biologics as ReDaxin appeared to support recovery from exercise-induced muscle damage in a recent clinical study. The findings were published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

The study, conducted at the University of Kentucky, was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving healthy male participants who took either 250 or 500 mg of ReDaxin over 17-18 days. They completed an exercise protocol to induce muscle damage, and over a 48- to 72-hour period, they experienced significant recovery in strength, while the placebo group experienced no improvement over the same time period. There was a five-fold greater improvement in strength recovery and up to a 27% reduction in perceived muscle soreness during the full recovery period, compared to placebo.

ReDaxin is rich in a rare class of polyphenols called 3-deoxyanthocyanidins, which have been studied for their potent antioxidant activity, support of cellular defense pathways, and immune support benefits. However, they’ve never been available in a dietary supplement, as standard sorghum only produces them in minuscule quantities. RedLeaf’s proprietary, non-GMO sorghum produces high amounts of 3-deoxyanthocyanidins. The ingredient is water-soluble and suitable for dietary supplements, functional foods, and beverages.

“The new clinical study is a major milestone for the sports nutrition industry,” said Jordan Wood, co-founder of RedLeaf Biologics. “We have peer-reviewed clinical data confirming that a U.S.-grown botanical can accelerate strength recovery and reduce soreness after exercise. ReDaxin represents the perfect marriage of gold standard science and American agriculture.”

ReDaxin is fully derived from a proprietary, non-GMO variety of sorghum grown in the U.S., and RedLeaf Biologics controls the supply chain from seed to extract to ensure full traceability, sustainable farming practices, and reliable scalability, while supporting U.S. farmers.
