FrieslandCampina Ingredients, a global supplier specializing in proteins and prebiotics, has opened a new application center in Singapore, increasing its R&D footprint by 30% in the city-state.

The new opening was supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board and will serve as a gateway to the Asia-Pacific markets including Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.

The new facility will also provide faster delivery of tailored ingredients to help brands meet the growing and diverse needs of the region.

Singapore is also home to other FrieslandCampina business groups, including FrieslandCampina Professional and FrieslandCampina Asia.

The new facility will be equipped with laboratories for developing functional foods like yogurts, bars, and supplements, with specialist expertise in UHT processing, analytical testing, sensory science, and packaging to accelerate application development and help customers bring innovations to the APAC market faster.

The company’s existing activities in Singapore are primarily focused on infant and medical nutrition, but the new facility will add capabilities in performance/active nutrition and children’s nutrition.

Singapore has been home to FrieslandCampina’s APAC headquarters since 2011, and is its only development center outside of the Netherlands. In addition to expanding its workforce, the new facility will collaborate with local educational institutions; the company supports young talent through an established internship program with local universities and already has offered three internships. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Singapore Health Promotion Board for the Eat, Drink, Shop Healthy initiative and has previously partnered with ActiveSG on the Nurture Kids pilot to promote healthy lifestyles among children.

“The opening of our new application center in Singapore marks a pivotal time for our business, demonstrating our commitment to the APAC market and the strategic importance we place on the region,” said Tjalling Bekker, APAC regional director at FrieslandCampina Ingredients. “The APAC market is changing rapidly. Consumers are prioritizing daily health, emotional wellness and beauty-from-within. Our new application centre will help our customers succeed in this fast-moving and growing market by accelerating application development and enabling closer collaboration so we can navigate these exciting opportunities together.”

“FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ new application center is a valuable addition to our vibrant food and nutrition ecosystem,” said Melissa Guan, vice president and head of the Singapore EDB’s consumer division. “The facility will accelerate innovation through co-development efforts with customers to support health and well-being outcomes across all life stages. We look forward to seeing FrieslandCampina Ingredients work closely with industry partners to create nutritional solutions that unlock new business opportunities in the APAC region.”
