PhtyoGaia’s TocoGaia, a tocotrienol-rich Vitamin E derived from palm oil, supported positive outcomes in a wide range of age-related health markers in a clinical study. The findings of the 6-month, randomized, controlled study on 67 healthy volunteers between ages 50 and 70 were published in Nutrients.

Over the treatment period, participants who consumed the tocotrienol-enriched beverage showed significant improvements in World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) psychological assessments, reflecting better mood and emotional resilience compared to placebo.

The participants who took the supplement also exhibited better maintenance of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase, which protect cells against oxidative stress and contribute to the body’s overall antioxidant defense system.

Participants who took TocoGaia also experienced greater maintenance of telomerase activity. This enzyme is critical for maintaining telomere length in cells, which is considered a marker of biological age and genomic stability.

The supplemented group also showed reductions in inflammatory markers such as TNF-alpha, and the cytokines IL-6 and TGF-beta. Further, the supplement appeared to reduce levels of 8-OHdG, a biomarker of oxidative DNA damage.

The supplement was also safe and well-tolerated; cortisol, insulin, liver enzymes, and lipid levels remained stable within normal ranges in the participants who took TocoGaia.

“This is one of the most comprehensive human trials to date showing that tocotrienols can positively modulate several key hallmarks of aging, from reducing inflammation and oxidative stress to enhancing genomic protection,” said Ariati Aris, PhD, scientific affairs specialist at PhytoGaia. “What’s truly encouraging is that these benefits were seen within just six months of supplementation, with no reported side effects. These findings add robust support to the growing scientific evidence positioning tocotrienols as a safe and effective nutraceutical for healthy aging.”

“This study comes at a pivotal time when brands and consumers alike are demanding natural, effective, and – above all – safe solutions for healthy aging,” said Bryan See, vice president of PhytoGaia. “Honestly, TocoGaia makes it easier for brands to compete. It’s clean-label, clinically validated, and delivers exactly what today’s consumers and product teams are looking for.”
