Life Extension Launches Probiotic Formula for Healthy Aging

Supplement brand Life Extension recently launched Florassist Probiotic Youthful Gut, a formulation of probiotics and postbiotics, as part of its healthy aging line of supplements.

According to the company’s research, consumers seeking to support healthy aging almost always turn to supplements (94%), and 74% of respondents said that they would take a probiotic to support the aging process.

Florassist Probiotic Youthful Gut is formulated to promote a balanced gut microbiome, a healthy inflammatory response, and to support other markers of healthy aging.

Age-related changes to the digestive tract can affect everything from nutrient uptake to cholesterol, noted Michael A. Smith, MD, director of education at Life Extension. “There are trillions of microorganisms that live within our digestive tract that play a vital role in keeping us healthy. And it’s the changes to those microorganisms that can impact how well our gut microbiome works, and, in turn, impact a healthy lifespan.”

In a clinical study, healthy adults taking the blend of L rhamnosus IMC 501 and L. paracasei IMC 502 probiotic strains featured in Life Extension’s formula showed a healthy inflammatory response compared to baseline. Additionally, the strain combination has been evidenced to support the nutritional status of elderly participants, Life Extension reported.

The new probiotic, according to Asha Jaja-Chimedza, PhD, discovery research manager, is designed to help ‘curate’ the gut microbiome, enriching health-associated gut bacteria and promoting healthy aging by supporting key biomarkers of the aging process. “We’re offering an effective way to support crucial aspects of staying healthy and resilient at every age.”
